Q

Requesting a book that is currently checked out.

I wanted to borrow a book that was currently checked out, so I went to request the book and place it on hold. When I did I saw that the book isn't due for 9 months. I was wondering if you can tell online if this is a glitch in the system display, or if someone really is allowed to keep the book this long.

Answer

Faculty can check books out for a year-long loan.  However, they are still subject to recalls.  If you place a request on a book, the person who currently has it will have to return the book within a four days, regardless of when their original due date was (and usually, the books are returned sooner).
